About Graham MacDougall

I’m a senior consultant with Barrington Consulting with over 25 years of experience in a variety of digital product leadership roles, including service design, research, strategy, development, and operations management.

As a skilled digital media leader and certified UX Master, I’ve led teams and projects across a number of sectors, developing and launching digital products that have brought growth and transformation to organizations in both Canada and the USA.

My expertise in both building digital products and in user experience (UX) research and service design help me understand business needs, facilitate change, and create impact. 

Interests

I’m passionate about helping organizations define their goals and works with them to understand how technology can help achieve those goals. My demonstrated leadership and experience help him create strategies, plan, and build products to improve processes, use technology more effectively and most importantly, create results.

Experience

Barrington Consulting Group

I have been the Service Design Practice Lead for Barrington Consulting from November 2021 through present. In this role, I provide the Barrington team with: 

  • UX Research and Service Design consulting and thought leadership 
  • Digital services delivery team mentoring, leadership, and management 
  • Business development for new and existing clients

Post-secondary sector

  • As Manager of Digital Products and Experience at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), I led the organization’s development of reinvigorated enterprise digital products and user experiences.  
  • Prior to NSCC, I was Associate Director of Digital Marketing at Dalhousie University, bringing leadership and vision to the university’s digital strategies and products.  

Broadcast/interactive media sectors

Before entering the post-secondary sector, I served in leadership roles in the media industry:

  • DHX Media – Digital media/interactive business line development and production
  • Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in Canada – Business development, product mangement, content strategy, content development and UX design for broadcasting/interactive products
  • Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the USA – Building business-to-business digital products to improve content distribution, developing new products and revenue models for digital content, and improving online fundraising tools and UX standards for 170+ PBS member stations to drive revenues. 

Industry involvement

I have contributed to numerous industry events and organizations throughout my career as a speaker and mentor, presenting at numerous conferences on service design, user experience (UX), design thinking, marketing and digital innovation.

Recent training and certifications

I’m committed to professional development. I have earned a UX Master Certification from Nielsen Norman Group and completed a 16-month peer leadership program offered by Fire Inside in the past 4 years. I have also done significant self-led professional development around Agile Delivery, Design Thinking, Digital Accessibility, Design Ops and Design System Leadership.
